These are two pages of my studies of the head and features. I have other studies that make up my sketchbook, but, I like what I've been learning about figure best. One of the instructors at school was kind enough to let me sit in on her figure classes and gave me this sheet of drawing she did which demonstrate almost everything you see here. I just drew it over myself to get the hang of it. The only thing different is the part about the lighting and how I drew the ears and the noses...since I couldn't understand the instructor's handwriting well enough to follow the instructions. I've been using these techniques in my anatomy classes, since we have to draw portraits at the end of class of every model we draw. So far, This technique has given me the award of capturing best likeness with the portraits! It really works. Forgive the blotchiness- again these sketches arn't large at all.
Oh, when I was doing the heads, I modeled a head out of modeling clay that I use as a form of reference now. It really helps when trying to figure out lighting and getting difficult angels.
