It's hard to say where I drew my inspiration with this one. Funny thing, I can't even remember how this one got started. Maybe you can tell, but it's about an older woman who's suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. In her room, she has photo albums sprawled out, old toys and mementos, with pictures hanging from the ceiling, trying desperately not to forget the memories of her past.
Good or bad, however big or small, a memory is a precious thing, and collectively they define who we are. Im reminded of something I did once when I was a kid. I wrote a letter to my future self, stashed it away on my computer, so that by the time I read it, I will have forgotten all about it. Sure enough, I stumbled upon the letter while I was cleaning out some files, and boy was it hilarious! It was like I was getting schooled by a complete stranger! It made for a good laugh, but more importantly it reminded me of the simple days. I had such high expectations of myself, based on the letter I wrote. I expected Id be doing this and doing that! But by the time I read the letter, I had forgotten all about those dreams. I got distracted with work to the point where the dreams I had as a child gently slipped away from me.
I think many people can sympathize with this woman because most have experienced the slipping away of our precious memories. Where did the dreams of our youth go? Where and when did we lose our ambition? Have we forgotten why it is we loved what we love?
Just a thought, really. It's going to be a while before I finish this one, so I decided to just post it up for now.
wow, it looks awesome so far the lighting is very dynamic. i think most everyone can sympathize, though this must be much more painful emotionally than anything we forget as young people
can't wait to see it finished! are you going to fill in all those pictures? that would be awesome! lol
nice to see this one up. It will be good to see this piece finished as well. Though i think with the grey and white tones it really keeps the meaning and idea of it plain and secure.
Instead of your eyes dashing to the colors splashed here or there, your eyes see it in a different scope and tend to wander from one corner to the other, allowing the viewer to see the whole picture in its depth and detail
i like this a lot. together with your description it's very touching. amazing work
at first it reminded me of louise bourgeois. in case you don't know her; she is a 98 year old artist who sometimes builds cages like this [link] for the people to go inside, and her art has a lot to do with her childhood memories.

Fruit Punch. Taste my fruity fist!
my grandmother suffers alzheimer's desease. I don't know when, but someday she won't be able to remember... anything.
it isn't fair... she was (and still knows it, luckly) an opera singer. eventually she won't remember even her favourite aria.
too moving...
